HEIR PRESUMPTIVE

Heir Presumptive has been my longest running project, something that I started in high school and has been changed and revamped so many times it’s hardly recognizable. At it’s core, it’s a fantasy story about the young princess of a galactic empire trying to grapple with responsibility, what she owes to herself, her friends, and the galaxy she’s supposed to one day lead. It’s been a wonderful source of practice over the years, and in 2016 I finally launched it into a webcomic at heir-presumptive.com and have been able to share it online and at conventions!

A fun design and much closer to her current iteration, but I decided it would be a lot of details to try and handle in comic form.

What turned into Abi’s final design - still has pieces of what I enjoyed about her older designs, but simplified for the hundreds of times I’d need to draw her during the comic. Here’s a few more pieces of concept art from the Heir Presumptive vault…

Dragon Age

Alright, so yes, this is all fanart BUT I’ve put enough time and effort into developing my work based around the world of Thedas that I would feel remiss not including it. I got into these games right after I’d graduated college and hit a bad art slump, and drawing and developing my Lavellan (one of the player characters you can choose in Dragon Age: Inquisition) has been an incredible source of fun and inspiration for me even now. There’s so much left to explore from what was laid down in the games themselves, and I love playing around with the characters and concepts and trying to find my own spin on them.

Imira Lavellan is probably one of my most successful character designs, and every time I go to sketch a new outfit for her I end up coming back to the same basic concepts - the same shade of purple, the soft skirts, and more often than not, poofy sleeves. They get across her character extremely well. She’s kind, motherly, a healer, but also has a bit of a mysterious side. One time someone told me she looks the way lavender smells and honestly I can’t ask for better feedback than that.

Outfit Designs

So I’ve been doing commissions for a while now, and there’s one thing that people always seem interested in getting - outfit designs. A lot of times it’s their Dungeons & Dragons characters, sometimes Dragon Age characters, or maybe just their original character. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love designing outfits, so it’s really a win-win. Anyway, here’s a few of my favorite designs I’ve done!
